The Tudor Black Bay Dark Ref. 79230DK marked the introduction of Tudor's first serially produced all-black Black Bay model, bringing the brand's vintage dive watch design language into a more contemporary and tactical format. Released in 2016, the reference combined the familiar architecture of the Black Bay collection with a matte black PVD-coated case and bracelet, creating one of the most visually distinctive executions of Tudor's flagship sports watch.

The 41mm stainless steel case is fully coated in black PVD and fitted with a matching unidirectional rotating bezel featuring an anodized black aluminium insert. The matte black dial retains Tudor's signature snowflake handset and oversized luminous hour markers, design elements originally developed for Tudor's military-issued dive watches of the late 1960s. Subtle red text above six o'clock provides a small contrast against the otherwise monochromatic design.

Powering the watch is Tudor's manufacture Calibre MT5602, a COSC-certified automatic movement equipped with a silicon balance spring and a 70-hour power reserve. The movement represented a significant step forward for the Black Bay collection, delivering improved accuracy, anti-magnetic resistance, and extended autonomy compared to the ETA-based movements used in earlier references.

Water resistant to 200 metres, the Black Bay Dark was supplied on a matching black PVD-coated steel bracelet and accompanied by an additional woven fabric strap produced using traditional Jacquard weaving techniques in France. The combination of robust construction, manufacture movement, and distinctive monochromatic styling has made the 79230DK one of the most recognizable modern Tudor references.

Produced for a relatively short period before being discontinued, the Black Bay Dark occupies a unique position within the wider Black Bay family as one of the few references to feature a factory black-coated bracelet and case. Today it remains a popular choice among collectors seeking a modern Tudor sports watch that offers both everyday practicality and a markedly different aesthetic from the brand's more traditional dive watch offerings.
