Vortic Watch Co.
Chicago
Black Titanium
Description:
This unique timepiece began it’s life in 1940 as a pocket watch crafted by the Elgin watch company in Chicago, Illinois. Elgin was not only the largest watch manufacturer in the United States, it was the largest watch manufacturer in the world for over 100 years.
Eventually, this watch’s exterior case was scrapped, likely for it’s gold value, so the dial and movement were removed and cast aside, likely stashed in a pawn shop drawer or flea market stall until they were recovered by the team at Vortic Watch Co. This dial and movement combo were fully serviced and converted into a beautiful wristwatch in 2019.
The manual wind movement is housed in a custom made, blackened titanium 3D printed case with the crown prominently perched at the 12 o’clock position - a nod to it’s pocket watch origins. It also features a large sapphire crystal caseback, displaying the movement’s gold accents and beautiful finishings in full view.
